We are all experiencing a time when safety is at the forefront of our minds. The importance of taking steps to be safe has brought a heightened sense of awareness of our surroundings and activities.
This year marked the first-ever virtual FRA Annual Meeting, held May 18-20. Over 100 members gathered via conference call for committee work and the governance decisions that will guide the association through the coming year.
As we do not hear a lot of good news these days, I think it is time for some. At our Southcentral Region Spring Meeting this past March, one of our presentation topics was The Southern Loggers Cooperative (SLC).
This winter, I observed what might be the most interesting and innovative timber harvesting system to be tried in the Appalachians in the last three decades: The cable assist/tethered logging system that was started in New Zealand and has proven successful in steep, rugged terrain in the western U.S.
