Rockville, MD – The Forest Resources
Association has launched a new initiative to sharpen forest operators’
response to accidental spills of hazardous substances in the woods or at
the landing, through an orientation workshop and a partnership with Breg
Environmental to make “spill kits” and related supplies available to
loggers and forest management contractors.
FRA’s video-based workshop, available for presentation at members’ own
locations, can help logging contractors and other forest operators develop
Spill Prevention and Control plans, orient their crews on
implementing such plans, and introduce products now available to enable a
rapid and effective response to a spill or leak at a remote location.
A slide show on FRA’s home page at
www.forestresources.org
provides an overview of Spill Prevention and Control, with ordering
information for spill kits and related products available from Breg
Environmental and Forestry Suppliers Inc.
Stronger federal enforcement of existing spill regulations is anticipated
within months, as disputes over regulatory provisions are settled. “We
think this issue, of all issues, would be a good one on which to lead,
rather than follow,” comments FRA Director of Forestry Programs, Steve
Jarvis, the organization’s point-man on Spill Prevention and Control.
