The overall Annual Meeting theme is “Roadmap to Recovery,” with two General Sessions dedicated to “Bio-Energy Development” and “The Impact of Logging Capacity on Recovery.” FRA National Committee meetings, with educational presentations, will occupy Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 14. All of these sessions are open to all registrants. At noon Sunday, the more formal Meeting program will open, with FRA’s Annual Awards Luncheon, followed by the Board of Directors meeting and a Networking Reception. The Wood Supply Research Institute will hold its all-day annual meeting at the same location, on Friday, March 12, and Scott Berg and Ron Lovaglio will hold a half-day Forest Certification Workshop the afternoon of Saturday, March 13. (Separate registration is required for both of these meetings.) Brooks Mendell of Forisk will launch Monday morning’s “Bio-Energy” General Session with an “Update and Overview on Bio-Energy Development,” leading into a panel of representatives from Green Circle, The Southern Company, International Paper, and Catchlight, who will outline their visions of how new biomass requirements will change supply chain management. Jim Olson, of Texas A&M’s Bush School of Government and Public Service, will address Monday’s Annual Luncheon, with a presentation entitled “Fair Play: The Moral Dilemmas of Spying.” Monday afternoon’s General Session will open with a report from Don Taylor, of Sustainable Resource Systems, on “The Impact of Logging Capacity on Recovery,” followed by a panel of NewPage’s Fred Souba, Parnell, Inc.’s Joseph Parnell, and Plum Creek’s Tom Reed, presenting views on the relationship between logging capacity and their businesses’ success, in what we hope is a period of economic expansion. FRA’s national committees—open to active participation from all registered Meeting attendees—will hold their meetings all day Saturday, as well as Sunday morning: the National Timber Harvesting and Transportation Safety (THATS) Foundation, the National Supply Chain Committee, the National Forestry Operations Committee, and the National Public Affairs Committee. The National Forestry Operations Committee will feature presentations from a federal Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) official, as well as an update on Range Fuel’s Soperton, Georgia project from FRA Board member Bill Schafer. FRA’s National Awards Luncheon, on Sunday, March 14, will recognize the nation’s finest in Logging, Pro-Forestry Activism, and Technical Writing, and the FRA Board of Directors Meeting, that afternoon, is also open to all registered attendees. A silent auction to benefit the National Timber Harvesting and Transportation Safety Foundation will run throughout the three days. For best rates, be sure to register by February 20, 2010.
