Rockville, MD – The Forest Resources Association’s Northeastern Region’s Safety & Training Committee has developed an important manual addressing what has become an increasingly prominent concern in logging safety: the risks associated with loggers’ private garages or shops.

“Recent years’ progress in making the woods safer has been linked, to some extent, with increased mechanization. Our Northeastern Region has rightly identified hazardous conditions in maintenance shops as an action area,” stated FRA President Richard Lewis.

FRA’s Garage Site Safety manual highlights general safety precautions for a modern logger’s garage, focusing on the maintenance and repair activities most frequently associated with injuries and describing how to maintain a safe and professional garage workplace.

The 44-page, 8½x11 manual is bound with a flexible uni-coil binding and has a laminated front and back cover. With its grease-resistant binding, it is meant to be stored in and referenced at the actual garage workplace.

FRA members may order the manual at $15 per copy, domestic shipping included; the price is $30 per copy for non-members. Please enclose payment with order, checks payable to “FRA”; charge orders may be faxed to 301/838-9481. Direct orders to Forest Resources Association Inc., 600 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 350, Rockville, MD 20852, and refer to stock number 04-A-3.

The Forest Resources Association Inc. is a nonprofit trade association concerned with the safe, efficient, and sustainable harvest of forest products and their transport from woods to mill. FRA represents wood consumers, independent logging contractors, and wood dealers, as well as businesses providing products and services to the forest resource-based industries.
