Rockville, MD – The Elmia Wood Fair—-the largest and most comprehensive in-woods logging and forestry technology exposition in the world—-is set for June 1-4, 2005 in a 371-acre forested site near Jönköping in southern Sweden. The Forest Resources Association is Elmia’s representative in the United States, providing information about what to expect, as well as guidance about transportation and lodging.

Information on attending or exhibiting is available from FRA’s Neil Ward at 301/838-9385; nward@forestresources.org.

FRA will also lead a delegation of up to 40 forestry and logging professionals, for an in-the-field look at innovative forest management and logging practices in northern Sweden, the week before the Fair. Information about joining this tour, which includes two days at the Elmia Wood Fair, is also available from Neil Ward. FRA led a very successful tour in conjunction with Elmia Wood 2001, four years ago.

FRA’s involvement with Elmia reflects a mandate to promote technology transfer within the U.S. industry, in view of competitive pressures forcing change. “The Elmia Wood Fair provides valuable exposure to new logging systems in a setting that encourages deeper evaluation and follow-up,” comments FRA President Richard Lewis, who attended the 2001 Fair.

Among forestry fairs, Elmia Wood is the big one. Elmia Wood 2001 drew more than 54,000 visitors, from all parts of the world. An overview is available at www.elmia.se/wood; select the “English” icon. English is the official language for Elmia Wood 2005.

The Forest Resources Association Inc. is a nonprofit trade association concerned with the safe, efficient, and sustainable harvest of forest products and their transport from woods to mill. FRA represents wood consumers, independent logging contractors, and wood dealers, as well as businesses providing products and services to the forest resource-based industries.
